NIPIGON — A transport fire closed Highway 17 in both directions near Nipigon overnight on Sunday.

Ontario 511 initially reported the incident at 11:40 p.m., closing one of the highway’s lanes and the west shoulder.

However, an all-lane closure was later implemented around 11:50 p.m. and remained in place for over six hours.

Motorists were advised to use caution in the area.

The North West Region OPP said, in a written statement provided to Newswatch later in the afternoon, that nothing suspicious and no injuries were reported.

The transport fire was cleared and the highway reopened shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Monday.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
