KASABONIKA LAKE — Two teenagers were arrested and charged after a stabbing in Kasabonika Lake First Nation this weekend.
The police received a call for service for an assault that had allegedly occurred the evening of May 2 — a group near the school had reportedly attacked a 19-year-old man, according to a Nishnawbe Aski Police Service media release, issued Wednesday.
Suffering injuries consistent with multiple stab wounds, the victim was transported to the community’s nursing station then flown to Thunder Bay for additional treatment, due to the severity of his injuries.
While the exact extent of the injuries has not been disclosed, NAPS said they are believed to be serious but non-life threatening.
A continued investigation identified two suspects — one located and arrested without incident on Sunday and the other on Monday.
A 15-year-old male has been charged with aggravated assault and disguise with intent, appearing for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
An 18-year-old was also charged with aggravated assault and appeared for a bail hearing on Monday.
Both teenagers were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
The identity of the 15-year-old was not released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
