Up to 10 cm of snow could arrive in parts of Superior North region

Environment Canada has issued a weather statement for parts of Superior North region, with snow accumulation up to 10 cm and ice pellets expected to start Thursday and continue into Friday.

SUPERIOR NORTH—Hazardous winter weather conditions are on their way for Schreiber, Nipigon, Marathon and Rossport.

Up to 10 cm of snow is expected to fall in this region with ice pellets accumulation and a risk of freezing rain. Environment Canada reports that a developing low-pressure system, is expected to bring a large area of mixed precipitation to parts of northwestern and northern Ontario Thursday and continue into Friday.

Precipitation is expected to switch over from rain to freezing rain and ice pellets Thursday morning. By afternoon or evening Thursday, precipitation will switch over to snow, mixed with ice pellets at times.

Surfaces such as highways, roads and walkways, and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
