Update: Northwest Region health unit offering bivalent COVID-19 booster to those 18+ as of today

In line with the Ontario Ministry of Health’s announcement, Porcupine Health Unit, (PHU) is offering the bivalent COVID-19 booster to those 18+ as of Sept. 26, 2022.

KAPUSKASING—As of Sept. 26, 2022, the Ontario Ministry of Health, (OMH) is reminding all adults aged 18+ and over that they are eligible to receive the bivalent COVID-19 booster dose, aimed at giving protection against the Omicron variants.

In line with the OMH’s announcement, Porcupine Health Unit is letting residents of their region including: Cochrane, Matheson, Moosonee, Iroquois Falls,Smooth Rock Falls, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Hornepayne, White River,  Wawa, and Timmins, that they can now schedule appointments to receive the bivalent COVID-19 booster dose.

Individuals who are eligible to receive a bivalent booster can do so at a recommended interval of six months (168 days) from their previous dose, or a minimum interval of three months (84 days), regardless of how many booster doses they have already received.

Those who would like to receive their bivalent booster between three months and the recommended six-month interval, or who otherwise have difficulty booking their appointment online, must call the PVCC to book an appointment.

“With the start of the fall and winter respiratory illness season, it is especially important to make sure people stay up to date with their vaccines,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are the best tool to keep people healthy and out of hospitals, and to ensure Ontario???s economy stays open as the weather cools and people spend more time indoors,” added Jones.
