Victim of fatal Highway 17 crash identified

Provincial police have released the name of a person killed in a crash on Highway 17 north of Wawa last week.

Police on Monday said 33-year-old Christian Casavant of Wawa was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which happened on Nov. 29 near the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 519.

A northbound pickup truck collided with a southbound commercial vehicle, police said. Casavant was the passenger of the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital with injuries that are considered not life threatening, while the driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the crash or was in the area of Highway 17 and Highway 519 between 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 29 is asked to contact the OPP.
