GREENSTONE — On the afternoon of June 2, officers with the Greenstone OPP Detachment were notified of a potentially disastrous accident on Highway 11.

A statement by Autumn Eadie, the OPP’s regional media and communications officer, said: “The OPP investigates thousands of preventable commercial motor vehicle collisions every year, making this a serious road safety issue. Speed, improper lane changes, following too closely, driver inattention and losing control are all recurring lead contributing factors in OPP-investigated CMV collisions year after year.”

Dash-cam footage showed one transport truck attempting to pass another carrying a wider load. However, as the transport truck moved into the oncoming lane, the driver noticed another commercial vehicle heading towards the truck prompting the driver to pull onto the shoulder to avoid a head-on collision.

As a result of the OPP investigation, the Greenstone OPP Detachment has charged a 22-year-old from Brampton for careless driving and failure to equip the commercial motor vehicle with electronic logging devices as required.

“The OPP will continue to conduct proactive traffic enforcement and professional traffic stops in an effort to reduce the number of CMV collisions on OPP-patrolled highways and roads. The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe CMV drivers who contribute to safe Ontario roads,” said Eadie.
