WAWA—Mayor Pat Tait and Wawa fire chief Kevin Sabourin, presented deputy-chief Pierre Gauthier with a 20-year Fire Service Exemplary Medal and Certificate, on behalf of Ontario’s Solicitor General.

The presentation was made on April 5, when friends and family of the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department attended while the community recognized Pierre’s 20 years of dedicated volunteer fire service.

Gauthier started his career as a volunteer firefighter in Timmins in 2000, joining the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department in 2004, becoming deputy fire chief in 2020.  Along with Gauthier, Kevin Sabourin, Wawa Fire Chief, was also recognized for his 30 years of volunteer firefighting service, for the Municipality of Wawa.

Tait presented the recipients with these awards and certificates, on behalf of Ontario’s Ministry of the Solicitor General. “We owe Kevin and Pierre a tremendous amount of gratitude and appreciation for all the long hours and years of volunteer service, they have given to our community, keeping our families, friends and our community safe.”

Congratulations to both firefighter Gauthier and Sabourin, for this note-worthy achievement and remarkable milestone as volunteer firefighters for their community.
