WAWA -- As a result of the ongoing concern with the Omicron variant spread, the Algoma District School Board informed their school community that “the COVID-19 case, contact and outbreak management approach is being updated across all sectors.
This is as a result of the direction given to them by the office of The Chief Medical Officer of Health.
They indicated that this action is to both balance individual risk and minimize disruption, while also maintaining safety in their schools and in the community.
Therefore, the Board stated that cohort-based dismissals will not be directed by a heath unit but may occur if student safety and supervision cannot be maintained.
The Board further said that the Ministry has suspended the reporting of COVID-19 cases in schools, and that the chart listing all schools under the Algoma District School Board’s umbrella, which is available on the Board website, will be updated, beginning Jan. 20, 2022, in the event of a school closure.
Parents were told that data will be publicly available to them and will begin being published on Ontario.ca starting Jan. 24, 2022, using data submitted by schools from the previous day.
