Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings for areas of Greenstone, including Geraldton, Longlac, Nakina, and Beardmore, with up to 25 centimetres of snow expected by Wednesday evening.

The agency issued the updated advisories on Tuesday morning, forecasting snow to start falling later in the afternoon and continuing through Wednesday.

Environment Canada said the storm will also bring winds gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour, which will result in blowing snow conditions early Wednesday morning through the evening.

"Snow will intensify [Tuesday] afternoon from Lake Nipigon to Geraldton," the alert statement reads. "Snow will gradually taper from west to east on Wednesday afternoon, though gusty northwesterly winds will result in local blowing snow and reduced visibility into Wednesday evening."

Elsewhere in the region, a weather advisory statement has been issued for the Nipigon, Schreiber and Marathon areas, forecasting up to 20 centimetres of snow by Wednesday morning. Amounts may be lesser near the northern shore of Lake Superior toward Marathon, Environment Canada added.

In those areas, the snow may mix with or turn into rain along the Lake Superior north shore before becoming snow again by early Wednesday morning.
