WAWA -- Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for Wawa - White River - Pukaskwa area.

The government weather agency says significant snow and freezing rain is expected this weekend as a Colorado low approaches the region.

Snow will begin Saturday morning or afternoon. The snow is expected to change to freezing rain or ice pellets Saturday night into Sunday morning before transitioning back to snow Sunday afternoon.

Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres are possible by Sunday evening. Ice accretion of two to five millimetres is also possible.

Consider changing travel plans accordingly, as hazardous winter travelling conditions are likely.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
