Winterfest returning to Terrace Bay for 2023

The festival is coupled with a minor hockey tournament that same weekend which organizers hopes will draw a lot of out-of-town support to the community.

TERRACE BAY — WinterFest is coming back for the first time since 2019.

Luke Bedard, the community development supervisor with the Township of Terrace Bay, said that the organizing team is excited to be back after missing the past few years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It wasn't held in 2020 as well as 2021 and it was quite challenging in 2022 in that, as we were planning it, we were in a lockdown, hoping the lockdown would be lifted so we were trying to organize something that we don't know if it was going to move forward or not,” he said.

“There's lots of date changes and schedule adjustments, so we're really happy to be hosting our first full WinterFest in a few years.”

Many organizations are stepping up to volunteer and contribute to the return of the event, according to Bedard, who said this year’s WinterFest will be like a total community celebration.

“The feelings around the community seem to be really positive, everyone seems to be really looking forward to it,” said Berdard.

“We've got LSHS doing a pasta dinner, we have our seniors club doing activities, the curling club is hosting activities, and we have our businesses are sponsoring different events, people seem to be very excited.”

The festival is coupled with a minor hockey tournament that same weekend, which Berdard hopes will draw a lot of out-of-town support to the community.

“We're expecting a lot of people from within the region in Terrace Bay on our big day, and we hope to see lots of them,” he said. “Not just at the arena but out in the community and participating in our celebration.”
