GREENSTONE — Youth and young adults looking to find their way into the job market should look no further.

MTW (More Than Words) Employment Services is offering their youth adults in action program to residents aged 15 to 30 in Greenstone and neighboring First Nations, with a start date of Jan. 22.

The deadline to register for the program is Jan. 19.

As of Jan. 16, there are only four spots left to fill.

The program was devised in 2003 and initially introduced as a pilot project in collaboration with Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC).

MTW Employment Services Executive Director, Carol Mercier, noted that it was the provincial government’s introduction of the Skills Link program that same year that made young adults in action possible.

The Skills Link program was created to fund organizations that help youth overcome barriers to employment, develop skills and knowledge related to the job market, and promote education and skill-building as key components of labour market participation.

In a statement provided to Dougall Media, Mercier wrote that the program they offer in Greenstone is all about fitting youth with the resources and skills they need to be successful employees.

“Participants will learn about jobs and gain experience working with access to employment and career resources and information - during that time they receive an allowance for attendance,” Mercier wrote.

She further observed that the program is structured in such a way that it can be offered one-on-one or in group sessions of up to 10 participants throughout the year.

The program runs on a four-year cycle and is set to end in April 2024.

There has been no confirmation as of yet regarding the start of a new program afterwards, though Mercier did mention that there is “potential.”

In addition to the young adults in action program, however, MTW Employment offers a wide range of services for residents in and around the Greenstone area – including needs determination, employment counselling, job search centres, and employment services funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
