Youth junior basketball coming to Terrace Bay

Young Terrace Bay basketball players will soon be able to participate in a junior NBA basketball program.

TERRACE BAY—As a result of a partnership between the Municipality of Terrace Bay and Basketball Canada, junior basketball enthusiasts will soon be able to take part in a Junior NBA basketball program.

The municipality made that announcement recently, indicating that through Basketball Canada, a national basketball program for youth five to twelve years of age, is coming to Terrace Bay.  The program is designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and the love of the game of basketball.

According to the municipality, the program will consist of 12 weekly sessions set to begin on Sept. 13, tentatively scheduled for 45-75 minutes in length.

The venue for this program is set for St. Martins School. Currently, the program is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the school, but times and dates are yet to be confirmed. Sessions will be divided up into three age groups: five to six; seven to nine; and ten to twelve, year old.

Interested participants are asked to register at the Terrace Bay Municipal Office, with registration deadline of Aug. 29, 2022.

In addition, all participants will receive a Spalding basketball, a Junior NBA jersey, a poster and a Basketball Canada certificate.

The municipality is also reaching out to community members who may want to volunteer as coaches for this program. Those interested can reach out to: [email protected]

Volunteer coaches will have training provided to them.
