In Loving Memory of CORNELIS EDUARD PRINSELAAR
Neil left us too soon on January 23rd, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and cherished memories. His smile and kindness will be greatly missed.
Born in Craik Saskatchewan on April 12, 1957 to Ed and Wilhelmina, Neil was the oldest of 4 boys. His early years were spent on the North Shore of Lake Superior, where his life-long love of sailing and the outdoors were firmly established. In Thunder Bay, he raised a beautiful family of girls and began a career at the grain elevators. He returned to school to further his education and proudly graduated from Lakehead University, and then began his career in management in the paper industry.
Later in life, Neil moved south to Whitby to continue his career in the paper industry. He found love for the second time around and married Sheila Birchard in 2011. Neil could often be found walking the trails of Durham with his beloved dog Gypsy or cheering on his Netherlands national football team. An avid reader and history buff, Neil realized his dreams of travel with Sheila and especially enjoyed their time spent at the family cottage near Kenora.
Family meant everything to Neil and he loved being a husband, father and Opa. He was a source of strength, comfort, and support to those he loved. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sheila, his daughters Heather (Scott), Laura, Alison (Brandon), grandchildren Hannah, Lily, Marston, Gavin, Magnus and Jacob, father Ed, brothers Peter (Susan), Hans (Thanyamai), Ryk (Allie), brothers-in-law David and Bruce (Heidi) and many family members throughout Canada and the Netherlands.
Neil was predeceased by his mother Wilhelmina and his mother in-law Irene Birchard.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 1:00pm at Harbourview Funeral Center. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Thunder Bay Humane Society.
Internment will be held in Winnipeg at a later date.
