We are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Dave Prentice, age 75, on Sunday August 17, 2025.

Dave was born in Indiana and lived in many places in the US and Canada before settling in O’Connor Township over 50 years ago, where he lived until his death.  He loved ‘the farm’ and took great pride in his yard and garden.  Despite losing everything in a house fire in 2022, he persevered and built a beautiful new home in the same spot, with no detail overlooked.

Dave’s appreciation of quality, craftsmanship, and helping others was evident in everything he did.  He took pride in knowing his product and providing excellent customer service during his lengthy career at Sears.  His passion and knowledge for everything outdoors led him to search and rescue in his retirement, where he served as President of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association Thunder Bay (CASARA).  His sense of adventure shone through his stories of being in the circus and ranching in his youth and was reflected in his involvement in underwater hockey, scuba diving, hunting, fishing, paddling and camping throughout his adult life.

Nothing was more important to Dave than his family, who he loved and cared for in every way that he could.  Dave was predeceased by his parents, George and Rosemary, and sister Lynn.  He is survived by his daughter Leah (Mike), grandson Iain, granddaughter Alora, brothers Steve, Jerry (Carrie), Marlin (Robbie) and Ray (Suzi), and nieces and nephews.

Dave will be remembered for his kindness, his remarkable life stories, his smile and his selfless nature.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 11am at the Kakabeka Legion, 4556 Trans-Canada Hwy.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of Quetico Provincial Park, Lakehead Search & Rescue Unit, or any conservation or animal rescue charity.
