March 8, 1944 - May 7, 2025

Denise, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at Roseview Manor in Thunder Bay, Ontario, after a dignified journey with dementia. Born on March 8, 1944, in Johannesburg, South Africa, youngest child of George and Thelma, and sister to Illona. Denise's life was marked by her spirited personality.

In July 1965, Denise married David in Durban, South Africa where they had three children - Michelle (Larry), Charles and Carolyn (Garth).

The family emigrated to Canada in 1980. Her move to Canada brought new adventures and the beginning of cherished relationships. Denise was blessed with three grandchildren who she absolutely adored and doted on, Robert (Danna), David (Kaitlin) and Skylar.

Grandma became a full time caregiver to Robert and David when Michelle had to return to work when the twins were 8 months old. Her dedication to family was the cornerstone of Denise's existence. She poured her energy into the childcare of her grandchildren, creating a legacy of love and cherished memories that will continue to resonate for generations. Grandma lived up to the sign which hung in her entry area “Grandma’s the name, Spoiling’s the game”. They have many fond and loving, and some hilarious, memories from all their precious time with her.

Grandma Denise became a proud great grandmother to Scarlett (middle name Denise), Theodore and Chloe.

A fierce advocate for all creatures great and small, Denise's compassion knew no bounds when it came to animals. Her gentle ways and empathetic nature made her a friend to every pet she encountered, and her advocacy for animal welfare was an inspiration to many.

In late 2023 Denise moved to Roseview Manor where she could get the care she required. Thanks to all the staff, and very special thanks to Holly and Raffino for their genuine loving care.

Over the last few years, Denise, and family, were supported by a special friend Nadia, who was a lifeline for our family. From her special visits for spa days, to dance sessions, helping with housecleaning, and just being there for support.

As we bid farewell to Denise, we celebrate a life rich in moments that touched the hearts of many. She taught us the value of unconditional love, the importance of family, and the joy that comes from caring for others. Her spirit will continue to guide us, just as the stars continue to shine even after they have faded from view. Denise's journey on earth may have come to a close, but the impact of her love and kindness will never be forgotten.

This journey was long and difficult to navigate and Michelle would like to extend special thanks to the Alzheimer Society, Hospice Northwest, and St. Joseph’s Care Group for their invaluable support and guidance.

Cremation has already taken place. Interment will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society, Hospice Northwest, St. Joseph’s Care Group, or the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
