It is with heavy hearts that Judy, Ryan and Keith announce the death of their husband and father Gary William Hughes (Hugsy) on May 6, 2023 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Gary was born on October 23, 1947 in Fort William, Ontario. He worked 30 years, 2 months and 21 days for Air Canada, on the ramp, as a “Ramp Rat” until his retirement in 2000.
Gary enjoyed spending time with family and friends but he also enjoyed the gym three to four times a week. He especially enjoyed travelling; many many times to Florida, to London, to Barbados, Hawaii and across Canada and the United States. Unfortunately, his last trip to Florida was a short one albeit an early return home because of sudden illness.
Gary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Judith of 49 years. He will be sadly missed by his son Ryan (granddaughters Jordana and Isabelle); son Keith (granddaughter Kayley, sons Dashtin and Dristin), and many of his closest and dearest friends.
Gary was predeceased by both his parents Bill and Beanie Hughes, brother Harry Hughes and sister Donna McGrath.
Judy, Ryan and Keith wish to thank Dr. J. Del Paggio and the Cancer Clinic staff; Gary’s nurses on 1A for their support and kindness towards Gary during his tough short illness and the emergency staff at the TBRHSC when Gary made numerous visits to them over his one-month illness.
We also wish to thank all Gary’s great friends and family for their numerous supportive phone calls, texts, food and prayers; without all of them it would have been unbearable.
