Mr. Giovanni “John” Luciano Tamasi, age 70 years, passed away peacefully in Toronto General Hospital on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Giovanni was born in Carpinone, Isernia, Italy on December 13,1951. He immigrated to Canada in 1971 and worked in the construction industry until he and his brother Alfredo (Fredi) started Tamasi Brothers contracting. John met Letizia Giancola. They were married on July 20, 1974 and soon after started a family.

John was an avid fisherman in his spare time. When he wasn’t working, he would find his next adventure on the lake. He also loved playing cards with his friends at the Italian Hall. He was known for his giving nature as he was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed help and he had an easy-going personality. His love for his family and his dogs was undeniable.

Giovanni is survived by his daughter Julie (Brad) and son Nick (Kim); grandchildren, Madison, Christian, Ciara, Bryce, Brooke and Morgan; his brother Alfredo (Teresa) and his sisters Carmela (Antonio), Michelina (Francesco), Elisa (Francesco) and Antonietta and his father-in-law Pasquale Giancola. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Thunder Bay, Italy and Switzerland also survive.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Letizia, his parents Nicola and Giulia Tamasi, his brother Emilio Tamasi and mother-in-law Sabina Giancola.

John's family would like to thank Dr. Kalra and his team, as well as the ICU nurses and staff of Toronto General Hospital and Dr. Nigro here in Thunder Bay for all of their dedicated care and compassion.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Giovanni (John) Tamasi will be held on Thursday, July 7th at 10:30 a.m. in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel. For those unable to attend the service, a video recording will be available on the Everest of Thunder Bay website later on Thursday.
