Helen Marie Riddell, age 96, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023 at Hogarth Riverview Manor.
Helen was born and raised in Fort William. She met her husband Jack at Ontario Hydro where they both worked. From her early years Helen enjoyed the summers she spent at her childhood camp and later at the family camp she shared with Jack and her children in Ignace. Helen and Jack lived most of their married life on Hodge Street and in retirement enjoyed spending winters in Florida. Helen was a long-time member of Trinity United Church, and over the years she enjoyed her crossword puzzles, bowling and lunches with the Red Hat Ladies.
She is survived by her children Susan (Grant) Victoria, BC, Murray (Susan) Thunder Bay, and Barbara (Ron) Ryley, Alberta. Also survived by grandchildren Claire, Curtis, and Kaitlin (Brandon), and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jack and son James in infancy. Also predeceased by her parents Alex and Margaret Sutherland, brothers Bob and Bill Sutherland, sisters Madge McKay, Betty Hrychuk and Arline Taddeo.
The family would like to thank Dr. Garon, the nursing staff and the healthcare workers at Hogarth Riverview Manor for their compassionate care. Also, thanks to all the staff at Sister Leila Greco where Helen spent a number of years prior to moving to Hogarth Riverview Manor. Further to Helen’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life for the family will take place at a later date.
