Irma Pretto, loving wife, mother, Nonna and Zia, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the Hogarth Riverview Manor. Irma was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario and moved back to Italy with her family at the age of 6. It was there where she met and married the love of her life, Severino.

Together they moved to Thunder Bay to start their new adventure and raise a family. Irma’s greatest love were her children, John, Linda and Dario. She was an amazing cook and her tasty meals expressed the love she felt for her family and friends when they sat at her table. Whether feeding 2 or 30 people, her lasagna, meatballs and blueberry pie were legendary.

She was a deeply kind and caring person and could often be seen helping out at the DaVinci, St. Agnes Parish, Catholic Women’s League, Ladies Venet Society and the Auxiliary to St. Joe’s Care Group. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends and took pleasure in lively conversation over coffee and sweets. As her family expanded, she was overjoyed to be a Nonna and showered her grandchildren with food and LOVE!

Irma is survived by her children Linda Rossi (Orlando), Dario (Kim), grandchildren Manuela, Andrea, Jon-Paul, Luke, Chiara, Julianne, Christian, Aleesa and families. Great grandchildren Emma, Sophie, Gabriel, Penelope, Lynden, and Giovanni. Sibling Annie and family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews both here and in Italy.

Predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years Severino, son John, mother Guisipina, father Victorio, and brothers Roy, Romano, and Italo.

We would like to thank all the care providers at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and the Staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their care and treatment of Irma. A VERY SPECIAL word of thanks goes to everyone at Hogarth Riverview Manor, especially the PSW’s, RN’s, RNP’s and Dr. Garon who all showed true compassion to Irma while in their care.

Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at St. Agnes Parish on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 10:00 am. If friends desire, memorial donations to the St. Joseph’s Foundation would be appreciated.
