It is with much sadness that the family of Josephine “Josie” Moskwa announces her passing on Monday, June 19, 2023, peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospice at the age of 97.

Born in Kalush, Ukraine on November 4, 1925, Josie immigrated to Canada in 1962. She worked in the laundry at the Port Arthur General Hospital until retirement in 1989. Josie always worked hard for her church and the Ukrainian community. She loved cooking for others and spent her retirement years hard at work in the kitchen of the Prosvita making delicious food for all kinds of events and gatherings. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.

Josie is survived by her daughter Natalia; grandchildren Matthew and Louise and their father Al Cross; and family in Ukraine.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jaroslaw “Jerry” Moskwa; her parents and her two sisters.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Janet Noy for taking such good care of Josie over the years. Heartfelt thanks as well to the excellent staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their care and compassion. Words cannot express our gratitude to Stephanie and Orysia Romaniuk, and the residents of Holy Protection Millennium Home for all of their help and support. It is through their kindness that Josie was able to maintain her independence.

A private funeral service for Josie will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery, where Josie will be laid to rest beside Jerry. If friends so desire, donations made to St. Joseph’s Hospice or any charity sending support to Ukraine would be greatly appreciated.
