Leo George Elliott

Mr. Leo George Elliott Sr., age 65 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2022 with his loved ones by his side.

Leo was born on October 23, 1956 in Beardmore, Ontario. He moved with his family to Thunder Bay as a teenager, where he worked 38 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Great Lakes Paper. Leo met the love of his life Rose Chornobay over 52 years ago and they were married on September 18th, 1976, spending a lifetime together and adding two sons to their family.

Leo could spend all day in the boat as he enjoyed fishing, especially for Salmon on Lake Superior. He was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan that loved the game of hockey. He coached over 20 years with his son Leo, meeting many great people and making numerous friends over those years. Above all else, family was his greatest passion. He was a loving and devoted husband to Rose and was so proud of his sons and grandchildren. Nothing made him happier than spending time with all of them.

He battled Amyloidosis for over 10 years, but Leo was a strong man that fought courageously, as he was determined to spend as much time and make as many memories as possible with his family. We are so grateful for the time we had with him.

Leo is survived by his wife, Rose (Rosalie Chornobay); sons Leo (Sherri) and Dwayne (Monika Dizio); grandchildren Jessica, Juliet, Jackson and Leo; siblings Carol (Buck) Grey, Joe (Heather) Elliott, Lorne (Linda) Elliott and Kelly (Rod) Hilton; brother-in-law David Ezowske and sister-in-law Hope Elliott as well as his nephew Robert (Linda) Elliott and numerous other relatives.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Lorrice Elliott; sisters Lorraine Freeman and Joanne Ezowske and brother William Elliott.

A special thank you to the Dialysis Unit at TBRHSC, especially Dr. Watson, Dr. Silverberg and all of the healthcare aides for their compassion and care.

A private family graveside service has already taken place in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum at St. Andrew's Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street West at James.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Leo to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
