This is not your typical obituary because my mom was not a typical woman. In fact, I’m quite sure that Linda wouldn’t have wanted any details of her private life to become a public affair.

As one of two people who knew her best, I believe she would not have considered the sharing of her place of birth, work history, nor life achievements to have been defining (although I believe they very much shaped the person she was). As such, I’d like to take this opportunity to share my personal thoughts about the woman that I believe she was for the benefit of those who truly loved her.

As her only child, Kyla (Lucas) Jarvinen, I wanted to write a personal message of love and truth (something that I think would have been most important to her).

Linda could best be characterized as a very much strong, pragmatic and ethical woman. Her interests were simple in comparison to most, but she was most content with her life the way she made it - and to those who knew her best, they know that it was always very much “her way”.

Most notable about Linda was her fierce love for two people .. me, and her husband of more than forty years (John). John was her partner. Her constant. Her home. Their love was unwavering and they shared a beautiful life together as the bestest of friends.

Linda was a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister.

She will be deeply missed by all.

Mom…in my last words dedicated only to you, I wanted to thank you for your love, modelling, and guidance that made me become the strong, independent woman I am today.

John and I will be coming to find you soon enough. I love love love you (I’ve told you a billion times, but it doesn’t feel like I said it enough).

A very special thank you is owed to Stephanie Danylko who helped lovingly care for my mom during the last difficult year.

To all of our friends and family, we respectfully request absolute privacy to grieve. Please do not call, pop-in, send flowers or food … simply think of your favourite memory with mom and smile up at her. ❤️

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
