It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of LOIS MAXINE DESSERRE (nee Rostie) on May 22, 2025 after a most courageous battle with cancer.

Lois was born on March 27, 1942 in Fort Frances, Ontario to Clarence and Edna Rostie and moved with the family to Atikokan in 1945, where Clarence ran the family bakery for 16 Years. Lois was the oldest daughter and one of 10 children that grew up in the area where she acquired the family baking skills, met the love of her life and husband of 46 years Dale, and started her family, having 2 sons Russell and Danny.

Her talents were many and she was adept at all of them. From Bunka, baking, cooking, knitting, and crocheting, to line-dancing, exercising and cards.. she loved a challenge and would work tirelessly to finish anything she started.

The family spent summers travelling west to family reunions and camping, eventually buying a cabin at Eva Lake where they entertained family and friends as their own family grew. Lois became a loving Mother-in-Law, Gramma, and Great-Gramma (GG), and her immense pride and joy were evident whenever any or all of the family were able to get together.

Lois was well known in the community from her time spent working at Fred’s Hardware, Myers Lumber, and the CIBC bank and she even enjoyed tree planting on occasion, though she never did get over her fear of wood ticks! More recently, she was a regular at the Pioneer Center and Riverview Church where she so enjoyed the friendships developed there. She is also known to have visited a casino or two!

Lois will be deeply missed by her siblings Ken (Laling), Everett (Carol), Kathleen, Bonnie (Jim), Bryan (Laurette), Richard (Donna), Cliff, Lori (Joe); sons Danny (Jodi), Russell (Marilyn); Grandchildren Taylor (Brittany), Dustin, Brian (Ashley), Brock (Anna); and Great Grandchildren Peyton, Mark, Sofia and Olivia. Lois was predeceased by her husband Dale (2007); Parents Clarence and Edna Rostie, and Sister Karen.

A celebration of her life will take place at Riverview United Church at Atikokan on Saturday, June 7 at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow. Internment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in her honour to the Atikokan General Hospital, Riverview United Church, Atikokan Pioneer Center, or Tamarac House in Thunder Bay.

Condolences may be made through www.nwfainc.com
