It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Uncle Loris Chiesurin, who died peacefully with family by his side on the evening of Tuesday, July 7.
Born on June 20, 1929, Loris grew up in Fort William's East End on the corner of McIntosh and Christie Streets. He often recounted the happy times of his boyhood in the "coal docks." He attended Fort William Vocational (Selkirk High School), excelling in machine shop. His technical skills earned him an offer from Ford Motor Company Trade School in Windsor, Ontario, where he completed his first year machinist apprenticeship in 1948.
Deciding Southern Ontario wasn't for him, Loris returned home to begin a 41-year career as a locomotive engineer with the CNR. After starting as a Fireman in Hornepayne and following a short time in Thompson, Manitoba, he was content to return and stay close to home. He helped to run his father Angelo’s store, Angelo's Confectionery, at Mortimer and Walsh Sts., which became a beloved neighborhood hub and warm place for visits and chats. More importantly, Angelo’s was a cherished home for countless family dinners and holidays with his parents, sister, brother-in-law, and six nephews and nieces.
Loris was an amazing uncle and great-uncle, genuinely interested in his extended family's lives. Loris was an avid photography and videography enthusiast who captured many family events with 35mm and super 8 video (now converted to disk). He was always ready with a helping hand and good old-fashioned advice. His presence brought comfort and wisdom, and he will be profoundly missed.
A faithful parishioner, Loris was a member of St. Elizabeth Church since its conception in 1952.
He is survived by his sister, Lora Moro; nephews, Ron Moro (Thunder Bay, ON), Dan (Gail) Moro (Calgary, AB), Larry (Lil) Moro (Edmonton, AB), and nieces Marianne (Steve) Jollineau (Thunder Bay, ON) and Janet (Ric) White (Toronto, ON) as well as beloved great-nephews and great-nieces Melanie and Geoffrey Moro, Marina (Yousif) Gabrail, Greg and Ryan Moro, Andrew and Matthew Jollineau, Jacob and Lexi White.
Loris was predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Marina Chiesurin; nephew Gary Moro, great-nephew Anthony Michael Moro (in infancy), and brother-in-law Leo Moro. His legacy of kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, officiated by Rev. Biju Matthew. Visitation will take place at the Blake Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 14th, 2025, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Prayers starting at 7 p.m. The interment of ashes will take place at Mountainview Cemetery.
