It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the loss of Luigi Fragale who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday September 22, 2022. Luigi was a beloved Husband, Father and Nonno. He was born in Borboruso, Italy on October 7, 1930 and there he met the love of his life, and wife of 69 years Maria (Mancuso). Together they immigrated to Port Arthur in 1960 with their son Vince. It was here that their family continued to grow as they welcomed two more sons Sandro and Paul.

Luigi believed in two things - hard work and family. He spent the majority of his working years between CN Rail and Thunder Bay Telephone, two jobs that he often spoke of fondly, but what Luigi truly enjoyed was “sharing the time and the love” with his family and friends. Luigi will always be remembered for his passion for music and dancing. He could often be seen dancing to accordion music in his living room or at weddings well into his 90s.

While living in Thunder Bay Luigi became an active member of the parish community and spent much of his time in his retired years volunteering at St. Anthony’s Church. He was a proud member of both the Holy Name Society and the Italian Cultural Center of Port Arthur. His smile and larger than life personality will leave a gap in our family that cannot be filled.

He is predeceased by his son Sandro, sister Vincenza Talarico, and parents Vincenzo and Maria Teresa Fragale and In-Laws Pasquale and Michelina Mancuso, brother-in-law Giuseppe Talarico, Giuseppe Costanzo, Pasquale Palermo, Peter Chiodo, Joe Grdevich Sr., sister-in-law Clotilde Fragale, Joseph Grdevich Jr., and niece Maria Palermo.

Luigi leaves behind his wife Maria, Brother Emilio, Sister Carmella Costanzo and Sons Vince (Frances), Paul (Shirley) and daughter-in-law Anita; In-laws Gregorio (Marisa) Mancuso, Santina Grdevich, Giovanni (Francis) Mancuso, Dina Palermo, Ida Chiodo, Grandchildren Andrea (Mark), Kristen (Jose), Matthew (Samantha), Carolyn (Hamza), Alexa (Will), Libby (Keith) and Emily; Great Grandchildren Elijah, Ezra, Ella, Zara, Zuri and Dexter as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass for Luigi will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, 123 Hilldale Rd. with Rev. Luigi Filippini officiating. Those wishing to attend the service virtually may do so at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLr01OiMjxw Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Fund or to the Dew Drop Inn. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
