Marie Calek, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother was called home to Heaven by God Wednesday, May 18th 2022. She was the kindest, most patient, compassionate, loving, nurturing woman whom God blessed us all with! Her positive and energetic spirit was infectious to all she met. Her no nonsense wisdom and guidance was always appreciated. This included both fashion and life in general. She was never too busy to offer encouragement, a shoulder to lean on and a heartwarming smile.

Marie was born in Czechoslovakia. As a young woman she sang with a big band, modeled briefly, and worked designing and sewing professionally Taylor made clothing.

In 1969 Marie and her husband Vilem together with their 2 children emigrated to Canada where she was a home maker and worked as a PSW. Throughout her career as a PSW, she lovingly cared for children with severe developmental disabilities in Kitchener, ON and later worked with the elderly at what was Beacon Hill Lodge in Thunder Bay, now called Lakehead Manor.

She was passionate about her role as a mother and doted on her husband. She was also an amazing cook!
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her eldest daughter Marie Lafontaine and husband Jeff, their children Dylan, Jordan and Tyana (her grandchildren), her daughter Dana Calek and Dana’s daughters (her granddaughters) Jessica Ruffin and Lisa Allen along with their husbands LeCory Ruffin and David Allen, and Jessica and LeCory’s daughters (her great granddaughters) Kiara and Gemma.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Vilem Calek.

A special thank you goes out to the phenomenal, kind, caring and respectful staff of the Hummingbird unit at Southbridge Pinewood. We will never forget the love and care you gave our mother.

Funeral services for Marie will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022 at Holy Family R. C. Church with Rev. Jerin Louis officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the Heart and Stroke foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.

Marie Calek our mother, grandmother and great grandmother will be greatly missed!
