After a long and healthy life, our beautiful Mother and Nona, Maria passed away on Tuesday November 22, 2022, at the age of 91 with her family by her side.

Maria was born in Fort William on June 23, 1931, where she grew up in a loving family environment. In 1952, Maria married the love of her life Orfeo Margarit.
Maria was a member of the St. Peter’s Church, St. Peter’s CWL and the Ladies Venet Society. One of Maria’s favourite things to do was to garden every summer with her late husband Orfeo. With their harvests, we were all blessed with Mom’s delicious home cooked meals, desserts and preserves. Mom would always welcome her 4 children’s friends into the family home and that’s how she became famous for her home-made chocolate cake, not just in the East End but as far away as Mississauga and Ottawa.

How fortunate we were to have a very caring, generous, witty, fun-loving Mother to touch not just our lives, but everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all, including her family’s dogs Huntley, Keyna, Jackson and Roman.

Maria is survived by her two sons Brian Margarit and David Margarit and her two daughters Marianne (Gordon Zuliani) and Catherine Margarit.  Grandchildren Trevor, Corey and Nicole Margarit, Brian (Danica) Margarit and Tanya (Mike) Carreiro and her great grandchildren Meya, Felix, Iver, Kaitlyn and Luka. Sister-in-laws Rita Rigato, Doris Szturm, Anita Sawchuck and many nieces and nephews.

Maria was pre-deceased by her loving husband Orfeo, sister Valma Burella and her parents.

We would like to thank Dr. Skunta and the staff at St. Joseph’s Care Group and Dr. Gleeson and the staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass in St. Peter’s R.C. Church on McIntosh Street beginning at 10:00 am, celebrated by Rev. Joseph Arockiam.  Visitation for will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with prayers being offered at 7:00 pm.  A private interment will follow.  Following the service, a celebration of Maria’s life will be held in the Solarium at the Slovak Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Health Sciences Foundation-Northern Cardiac Fund or the Canadian Diabetes Association-Thunder Bay would be appreciated.

You can once again dance in the arms of your one true love. Dance on Mom & Dad.
