Matthew passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early hours of July 24th, 2024 in his residence at Hogath Riverview Manor, 7 South. He was born and raised in Russell, Manitoba, Matthew left the family farm as a young adult to join other family already in Thunder Bay. He was then employed his full working career as a Grainhandler with Viterra, until his retirement in 1998. This then started is annual 6 month winter retreats to Florida and then Arizona, where he was proud of his own little home in Masa AZ. He so enjoyed his time down there with all of his southern neighbours and friends that became his extended family.
Matthew is survived by his two sons, James (Audrey) and Dan (Jolyne), two granddaughters that he adored, Taylor and Lexi, a brother Paul (Margaret) a brother-in-law Tom (Julia) and several nieces and nephews.
Matthew was predeceased in 1987 by the love of his life, his wife Monica. Also, his parents Michael and Martha, brothers, Bill and Patrick and sisters Anne, Lina, Helen and Nellie.
A private family celebration of his life will be held in his memory at a further date and time. We would sincerely like to thanks the caring and professional staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor, 7 South. Your true compassion for Matthew during his time there will never be forgotten.
