We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our mother and family Matriarch, Olga Fuchek on her 98th birthday Sunday, March 3, 2024. We were blessed to be by her side on her passing at Hogarth Riverview Manor. Olga was born in Fort William on March 3, 1926, to Metro and Joanna Nakonichewski. She lived her entire life in Fort William (Thunder Bay) as an accomplished seamstress and bakery clerk. In 1945, she met a handsome soldier, Paul Fuchek, returning from the war. They married in 1946 and spent 57 years of love together until his death on February 1, 2004.

Olga was a very devout Catholic and member of St. Peter’s Church. Mom was a people person, forming many circles of friends over the years. She loved her Bingo and the Blue Jays.

Predeceased by her husband Paul (Polly to her Ollie), her mother, father, and stepfather, as well as sisters, Catherine, Annie and her husband Metro Dubec and their son Donald, Mary and her husband Charlie Roy, and brother-in-law Mike Zatulsky and son Jim.

Mom will always be cherished and loved by her 3 daughters, Paula (Danny) McKinnon, Patti (David) Cameron, and Maureen (Roy) Myrefors. She was Baba Olga to 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She will be missed by her sister Stella Zatulsky. Many nieces and nephews will fondly remember Auntie Olga.

There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 615 Connolly St. on Monday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. Private family interment following the reception. As an expression of sympathy, please donate to a charity of your choice. In Olga’s own words- “For my funeral, bring your hearts full of kindness and remember to spend time with your elders and the poor.”
