It is with the saddest of hearts that we share the passing of our loving husband and father, Peter Michael Grant on April 4th, 2023. Peter left this world surrounded by the love of his family after a year- long battle with cancer.

Second son of the late Michael & Diane Grant, Peter was born in Fort William on January 14, 1960. Educated at local schools, he graduated in 1982 from Lakehead University with a degree in Business Administration.

In early 1983 he was introduced to Ulla. He set his sights on winning her heart and in no time, he succeeded. In December of that year he proposed and they married the following September. A few months later, he started his retail career with Kmart and together they moved around Ontario for the next 10 years living in Timmins, Owen Sound, Toronto and Waterloo before finally returning to Thunder Bay in 1997. During that time, they were blessed with the birth of their two children. With the closing of Kmart, Peter worked at Zellers and Big Lots before being hired as the manager at Shoppers Drug Mart on Arundel Street in 2014. He loved the store and his SDM family and worked until November when it became too difficult to continue; he missed being there every day.

Peter played bagpipes in his youth with the MacGillivray Pipe Band, but fishing and hunting were his lifelong passions. Sitting in the boat, fishing rod in hand was pure heaven for him, and his friend of almost 60 years, Clay, made sure that happened one more time last fall. The only thing that beat fishing and hunting was his family. He relished his role as a dad and every moment spent with his children on the phone or in person made him happy and he was so proud of all they had achieved. Being their dad was the best thing in his life and nothing filled him with more pride. He loved all his kids; the two he was given and the two his children gifted him with.

Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 38 years Ulla, daughter Megan (Andrew Dietrich), son Andrew (Sarah Snider), brother Stephen, sister Cynthia Jane and other extended family.

Peter and his family would like to extend sincere thanks to those who made our lives easier along this difficult path.

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the Sargent Family Reception Centre, 21 N. Court Street from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Words of tribute will be held at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory can be made to the Northern Cancer Fund or Dew Drop Inn.
