It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Sokoloski on May 7, 2023, at the age of 83. Peter passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 11, 1939, in Fort William, Ontario, Peter was a hardworking, ambitious, and talented individual. Over the course of his life, he explored a diverse range of careers, including Radiologist, Grain Elevator Inspector, and a Senior Instrumentation Mechanic at Great Lakes Forest Products.

A brilliant and sociable man, Peter spoke many languages and formed many lasting friendships throughout his life's journey. His kind and friendly nature endeared him to all who knew him. As a devoted family man, Peter shared his many passions with his children and grandchildren. These included camping, skiing, fishing, hunting, cycling, and travel. In his free time, he could be found riding his bike around town or acting as a handyman, often tinkering with cars and fixing things around the house. He enjoyed helping others in need, had a generous heart, as well as an incredible sense of humor. Peter taught his children essential life skills, resilience, and how to find joy in life. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he will be remembered for filling his family's lives with laughter, curiosity, and adventure. May you forever rest in peace Dad!

Peter's memory will be cherished, and his absence deeply felt by his wife of 59 years, Victoria, and their children: Bill; Maxine Wiersema (Dale); and Alison. His love will live on through his grandchildren: Caitlin and Veronica, children of Bill; Eric, Daniel, Adam, children of Maxine; and Thomas and Sidney, children of Alison. He is survived by his siblings Steve (Penny), Jonny, and Dolly (Tom), as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Sophie, and his stepfather, Steve, and many extended relatives.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Al Katari, Dr. Meagan Kennedy, Dr. Biggs, Dr. Nick and the exceptional nursing staff on the 1A CMH oncology wing at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care.

In accordance with Peter's wishes, a small family ceremony will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, on Saturday May, 13 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory to Thunder Bay Cancer Centre, Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
