The family of Roy Arnold Kadolph is very sad to announce his peaceful passing on January 9th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Roy was born on May 16, 1935 in Mount Nebo, Saskatchewan to Wallace and Lydia Kadolph. He lived much of his life in Thunder Bay. Vickers Heights is where he lived next door to his high school sweetheart Svea. Roy and Svea were together for 73 years and were married for 68 of those years. He was an electrician by trade and our own personal “MacGyver”; there was nothing he couldn’t fix. Roy retired from “the Mill” (Great Lakes Paper, etc.) in 1994. Following retirement, he continued working with his good friend Leonard McMartin for their own small electrical company.

Roy and Svea enjoyed many winters as snowbirds in Dunedin, Panama City Beach, and Tucson, Arizona. Roy was very athletic and competitive in his younger years. He played baseball for Club 17, football for the Redskins Team, hockey for the Fort William Canadians; he also enjoyed bowling, rifle shooting and golfing. Roy and Svea were also members of the Old Fort William Voyageurs. Together they attended many Rendezvous in the US and Canada. Many additional canoe trips were also taken in Northwestern Ontario. On Broadway Avenue, family life in the summer revolved around the pool, sauna and bonfires where many wonderful memories were made.

When the time came, Roy and Svea made the difficult decision to sell their family home on Broadway and embark on a new adventure of Condo Living. Condo life was full of new activities and friendships.
Roy had a strong faith in God and was very active in Calvary Lutheran Church for over 50 years. He was a very involved trustee, a handyman and founding member of the Thursday morning coffee group. Roy touched many lives with his friendly nature, warm hugs and was loved by all.

Family was extremely important to Roy. He loved nothing more than fishing off the dock with his daughter Elaine in Dryden, fishing in a boat with Larry at Pine Point and spending time with Terry and Bruce at their camps on Wolf River. The lights of his life were his grandchildren and the great grands. He took delight in teaching them how to use yo-yos, catch a ball, to master cannon balls in the pool and was an enthusiastic fan at their hockey and basketball games.

Roy’s surviving siblings are Lorena (Harold) Harri and Betty Anne (Norm) Ritchie as well as many nieces and nephews. As a family man, Roy was a loving and devoted husband to Svea and a proud caring father to Elaine (Bruce) Lindgren, Larry (Deannie) Kadolph, Terry (Millie) Kadolph and Bruce Kadolph (Helen). He was a wonderful Poppa and great Poppa to Dana (Jan) Matti, Kristian, & Leon Pajerski; Krista (Jeremy) Beckett & Mailey Chambers; Marne (Jay) Brynn & Briar Samsal; Kristy Kadolph (Frank); Connie (Matt) Hayden & Cooper Hitchens; Karen Kadolph & daughter Jacy; Crystal (Neil) Kacy, Tristan & Skylar Wing; Nickolas; Brandon & Britney Kadolph (Kyle); Stephen Lindgren (Eileen) & son Lincoln.

Roy is predeceased by Wallace and Lydia Kadolph, stepmother Betty; brother Earl (Ann) Kadolph & brother Gordon, sister Elsie (Steve) Splawski & Margaret (infant), in-laws Lambert (Vivian) Sjostedt, brother-in-law Arnold (Marie) Sjostedt, Don Splawski, Barry Kadolph, and Richard Kadolph.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Northwest Funeral Alternatives. Cremation has taken place. The service will take place on Monday, January 15th, 11:00 am at Calvary Lutheran Church on Edward St. A private family gathering will happen with interment of ashes in Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or Grace Place of Thunder Bay.
