It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of Roy Rapinda on Friday, November 29, 2024, with family by his side.

Roy was born on May 2, 1936 in Kenora, Ontario to Peter and Mary Rapinda (nee Diakun). The younger sibling to big brother, William (Bill). Sibling love was strong, as these two were thick as thieves; reminiscent pastimes included poker nights, fishing, family time with relatives, dry humoured jokes and so much laughter. Roy leaves behind two children, Wayne and Wesley. Roy met and shared his life with his partner, Isabel Royce Rapinda.

Roy attended Central School in Kenora where his family resided for many years. Roy was a very gifted painter and employed his skills throughout his life at Clara Industrial. Many of his impressive works included painting the stacks at Great Lakes Paper, Frog Rapids bridge in Sioux Lookout, and many more industrial and commercial spaces in Northwestern Ontario.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Roy took much pride in his camp at Whitefish Lake. Fond memories included spending family time with Roy at his camp, holding annual fishing derbies.

Roy will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family, children, Wayne and Wesley; grandchildren, Andrea and Micheal; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Reece and Andrew; sister-in-law, Beatrice Rapinda; niece, Peggy (Pat) Stilla and nephew, Wade (Elizabeth) Rapinda; as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family.

Roy was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Mary Rapinda; brother, Bill Rapinda; wife, Isabel Royce Rapinda; nephew, Peter Rapinda; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Rapinda (nee Craig); cousin, Anne Wade; aunt, Agnes Soucey; aunt, Anne Makahaniuk; uncle, Nick Rapinda; mother-in-law, Mildred D’Arcy.

A special thank you to the 4th floor team at St. Joseph’s Care Group for your compassion and care and to Dr. Bassuony.

In following Roy’s wishes, a private interment will be planned for Spring 2025.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
