It is with broken hearts, that we announce the passing of Mrs. Saladia Kakekayash, age 69 years, on Sunday, December 18, 2022 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Saladia was born in Sandy Lake, Ontario on April 11, 1953 to Cornelius and Minnie Kakegamic. She met Peter Kakekayash and they were married on May 4, 1975. They enjoyed their life and built their beautiful family together. Saladia enjoyed cooking and the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing but her greatest passion was her family. Nothing made her happier than spending time with those she loved. Saladia was a kind, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and she will be deeply missed.

Saladia will be deeply missed by her husband, Peter; children Curtis (Rachel), Calvin (Jolene) and Skylar (Marlene); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Gloria, Ella-Jane, Harry, Frank and Elijah as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and other extended relatives.

She was predeceased by her parents, Cornelius and Minnie Kakegamic; her brother Josias and grandchildren Trinity and Ryan.

Visitation for family and friends of Saladia will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street, Thunder Bay. A service will be held beginning at 3:00pm, officiated by Pastor Randall C. Crowe. Saladia will then be transported to Round Lake First Nation, where a Funeral Service will take place in Weagamow Lake Evangelical Church on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 11:00am, officiated by Pastor Ivan Wapenisk. The interment will follow in the Community Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jake Sawanis.
