It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Marie Tattrie (Menei) at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on August 19th, 2025 with family by her side.
Born on June 16th, 1992, at the Port Arthur General Hospital in Thunder Bay, Susan was the youngest of 4 children; Robert, Lori, Michelle and Susan.
In Susan’s childhood you would see Susan skiing, swimming, and spending a lot of time at camp with her siblings and family. She was sweet, smiley, bubbly, and always wanted to get in on whatever her older sister’s and brother were doing.
At age 17, Susan would have to endure the loss of our sister Michelle. Susan and Michelle were very close. To this day, Michelle’s memory has been a big part of Susan’s daily life. Susan had an immense love for her.
In 2012, Susan found the love of her life, Jason Tattrie. They gave life to Johnny and Scarlett who were the absolute light of Susan’s world. Susan and Jason officially got married in September of 2022. Susan’s favourite things to do with her family were fishing, hunting and camping. She would do anything to surprise Johnny and Scarlett whenever she could. She loved Jason so much, and would often tell her siblings just how lucky she is to have him.
On Feb 9, 2024, Susan was airlifted to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. She was quickly diagnosed with a very aggressive form of Leukemia. Susan fought this illness for over a year and a half, with incredible determination and pure will power. Every time the news got worse, Susan decided to keep bulldozing through onward and was an inspiration to so many people. Susan took her last breath on August 19th, 2025.
Susan is survived by her loving husband Jason Tattrie, her son Johnny, daughter Scarlett, mother Alison Menei, siblings, Robert Menei, Lori Menei (Mike Maletta), father Mario Menei, grandfather Tony (Serafina †) Menei, and grandmother Lynn (John †) Brotherton. Her sister Michelle was predeceased in 2009. Susan is survived by her sister-in-law Linda (Luke), brother-in-law Chris, Andy (Carlie), mother-in-law Sherry Tattrie, father-in-law Vern Tattrie, as well as many loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear cousins.
The family extends a special heartfelt thank you to the caregivers and medical staff on A1 at the Thunder Bay Regional Sciences Centre. You are truly angels and Susan is beeping that purple/blue scooter for you up in the sky at 1am for you all. Thank you as well to the medical staff at the Atikokan General Hospital and The Ottawa Hospital.
Lastly, thank you to the friends and family of Susan who stepped up to help with the many challenges Susan faced through out the year and a half. From watching the kids, to helping with rides, to helping with so many other tasks, and just being there for Susan…thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Thunder Bay Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated.
