Tanya Ditchfield

Tanya Ditchfield, age 49 years, passed away on January 19, 2022, in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with family by her side.

Tanya was born on March 8, 1972 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Tanya’s childhood and teen years were spent outdoors, exploring the beaches and coves in Terrace Bay and Marathon, calling these “her happy place”. She collected rocks and driftwood that she painted and decorated, creating dazzling works of art with recycled and natural materials. Spending summers with family and cousins at a family summer camp on the Dog River brought a special joy to her heart.

Her enthusiasm for life and playful sense of humour were contagious and her kindness was expressed daily by helping anyone in need. Donating her organs to the Trillium Foundation was her final act of kindness. If you would like to honour her compassion, pause and take time to help someone in need whether a neighbour, friend or stranger. She would have liked that.

Tanya will be sadly missed by her loving child, Ciara Marshall; devoted parents Linda Wilen (Arnold), David Ditchfield (Wilma); sisters Krista Morriseau (Sean); Sarah Ditchfield (Mark); grandmother Dorothy Wilen; her beloved nieces and nephews and aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank friends and extended family for their outpouring of love and support through this difficult time. We would also like to thank the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, especially those who cared for Tanya in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations to a local charity of your choice are welcome. A family gathering in memory of Tanya will be held at a future date.

“Memories now slowly fade of all the undesired. Keeping only the precious ones, that we’ll most be reminded.” (Tanya, June 1988)
