A section of Highway 17 east of Thunder Bay has reopened after an afternoon collision.

The Ministry of Transportation reported the highway closure just before 5 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Pass Lake and West Loon Road. The highway was reopened less than two hours later.

Shuniah Fire and Emergency Services posted on Twitter that they had received reports of a four-vehicle collision just east of Highway 587 and that extrication was required. The initial responders on scene have requested additional fire crews.

Two passenger-style trucks and two passenger sport utility vehicles were involved.

A 29-year-old has been charged with careless driving.

A few days later, police said one person had been taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that are considered serious but not life threatening.
