Winter travel advisory is in effect for parts of the region

​​​​​SUPERIOR NORTH – Those travelling Monday should exercise caution due to weather conditions, warns Environment Canada.

The agency declared a winter weather travel advisory Monday morning, stating that total snow accumulations of five to 10 centimetres is expected around Marathon - Schreiber, Nipigon - Rossport, Wawa - Pukaskwa Park and White River - Debreuilville areas beginning this afternoon through this evening.

The area of the highest snowfall amounts includes Highway 17 from Nipigon to Agawa, Highway 101 from Wawa to Timmins and Highway 144 from Gogama and north.

Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
