North Caribou Lake man nabbed for impaired driving

SIOUX LOOKOUT – A traffic stop in Sioux Lookout over the weekend has resulted in impaired driving charges for a 28-year-old.

According to a Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police, an officer conducting traffic enforcement initiated a traffic stop in the area of Wellington Street on Sunday around 11:13 a.m. when police observed a Highway Traffic Act infraction.

Upon further investigation, the driver was found to be suspended and awaiting trial for two separate impaired driving charges.

Police say when the officer spoke with the driver, they determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. A demand for a roadside test occurred and the driver failed.

He was placed under arrest and returned to the Sioux Lookout Detachment for further tests.

As a result, a 28-year-old of North Caribou Lake was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) section, operation while Impaired - alcohol and drugs and driving while under suspension.

The vehicle was impounded for a minimum of seven days.

The driver was remanded into custody pending video bail court on Nov. 24.
