LETTER: Has anyone clearly defined when they will stop being concerned about nuclear waste?

I'm honestly wondering if the anti-nuclear groups have a clearly defined stopping point. When is it time to call it a day?

To the editor,

I have a question for all those who feel concerned by the proposed Deep Geological Repository, this is especially directed towards the protest groups.

Has anyone clearly defined when they will stop being concerned?

It seems that no matter how many times clear evidence is provided to answer questions of safety it's either called 'fake' by individuals not qualified to make that assessment, or the goalposts get immediately moved.

There seems to be no realistic way to ever convince certain people that the international scientific community isn't comprised of bumbling idiots.

Canada itself is a global leader in nuclear research, and yet from the way we in the north treat scientists you would think they were no more qualified for the job than a McDonald's employee.

So I'm honestly wondering if the anti-nuclear groups have a clearly defined stopping point. When is it time to call it a day?

At what point are we allowed to be proud of the countless Canadian STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) professionals who have spent decades working towards thoroughly ensuring this a viable and hazard free endeavour?

There is more than enough publicly available evidence to support the dedication towards preventing negative impacts to either the environment or the people surrounding a chosen site.

I think it's past time to allow ourselves to say 'we are not concerned'.

Bring it on.
