Graduating from grade 8 represents an important education milestone. Yet for some it not only is a time for celebration and achievement, it can often be a time of transition and uncertainty. To help make the transition from elementary school to high school smoother and less stressful, Lake Superior High School is having its Grade 8 Family Night.

Life in Northern Ontario has many benefits, offering numerous opportunities to enjoy nature and wild-life. Sometimes however, we forget that although humans and wild-life live side by side, wild animals can be dangerous. Hornepayne residents were offered some helpful advice to keep them safe.

The Minister of the Solicitor General, recently announced a new initiative that will reimburse municipalities that provide protection services across the province that do not fall under any municipal boundaries, known as unincorporated areas. This initiative is made possible through the Northern Fire Protection Program.

Many communities have offered their thoughts, prayers and support for the Ukraine in recent weeks. Two sports teams from Manitouwadge High School decided to use their Sports Day to do the same.

Although the region has received so much snowfall this winter, and fire permits may be the last thing on people's minds, the residents of Horneypayne were reminded of the fact that fire permits are needed for burning of any kind within town limits. Fire season begins April 1, and residents are being offered free fire permits by their municipality.

Affordable and more accessible child care has long been a fundamental need for so many Canadian families. Both the provincial and federal government of Canada have finally agreed to funding of $13.2 billion, in an effort to lower child care costs for all families in Ontario.
